10 Advanced things with Acrylic WiFi Free and WLAN NDIS driver
We continue with functional articles about Acrylic WiFi. If we have seen 10 basic things to do with Acrylic WiFi, now we continue with some more advanced features.
Selection of network interfaces: It is possible to capture with special cards such as Airpcap or any WiFi card using the WLAN NDIS driver to capture Wi-Fi traffic. There is a selector which indicates available devices.
FCS: Since the WiFi packets are transmitted by air, invalid traffic and bad packets are often received. To find out if a packet is valid or invalid you can check a checksum called FCS. From the field of WiFi interfaces, you can select the Options button if you want to see all packets, or only the right or wrong.
Traffic Viewer: Acrylic includes a viewer to view details of WiFi traffic received at all times. This viewer processes a large number of WiFi packets and displays advanced details; to activate it you must press the Enable button.
Pcap: Acrylic uses the pcap format, compatible with market tools like Wireshark and Aircrack to read and store information from WiFi networks. When stopping a monitoring, Acrylic asks if you want to save the packets to a pcap file. These files can then be opened through the menu: File > Open Pcap File.
Wireshark support: The Acrylic driver installs a library called airpcap.dll on the folder system32. With this file you can emulate that tools like Wireshark believe that any WiFi card is an Airpcap, and from this moment on we can capture WiFi traffic on Windows with Wireshark. The only requirement is to start Wireshark as manager.
Using GPS: If you have a compatible GPS device you can configure it on Acrylic in order that all of the measurements are stored referencing their position longitude and latitude. This information will allow us to represent the information later.
Generating KML and KMZ maps: In the tools menu there is an option called “pcap to KML” that can process GPS measurements made with a .pcap file of Acrylic and display the information in Google maps.
Generating WPS keys and passwords: Password generation is done with scripts developed on c# and can be created and edited from the script editor. WPS PIN is a mechanism that allows you to connect to a network with a numerical code without knowing the password. As with passwords, it is sometimes possible to identify which is the value of the PIN using an ISP or a manufacturer router.
Getting screenshots: Most windows allow you to get a screenshot of the information that is being displayed through the contextual menu.
